Angela Merkel (Angela Dorothea Kasner) was born on July 17, 1954 in Hamburg Germany. She became a public figure in 2005 when she became the first female chancellor of Germany. Her parents met in Hamburg and they have a very interesting story about their life. Her father was a theology student while her mother teaches latin and English. After completion of his education they shifted to East Germany after the birth of Angela Merkel. She was the oldest in her siblings. She has a brother Marcus and a sister Irene. After some time, they moved to Templin.
Mekel finished her school in 1973. She has studied physics
at Karl Marx university in Leipzig. During her stay in Leigzig, she met her
first husband in that same class. She was married to her long before she has
finished her education in 1977. In 1978 she got her diploma. She started to
work as academic faculty at Central Institute of Physical Chemistry.
In 1982 she got separated from her husband but she kept his name Merkel. She
struggled after that a lot and she got a doctorate degree and wrote a thesis on
quantum theory.
After getting doctorate degree she started to work in various
campaigns and from this time her political career started to evolve. It was in
1989 when she started to participate in various state’s youth organizations. She
was also a member of young pioneers and Free German Youth, both of them were
the organizations working especially for the youth. Merkel also joined a
political party Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and after joining and seeing
her work Helmut Kohl’s appointed her as a minister of the cabinet for women. In
1998 Kohl’s was defeated and then she was named secretary general of CDU. After
that she started to impress various women in Germany, especially youth and then
she was chosen as a party leader.
She defeated Chancellor Gerhard Schröder in 2005 elections. She
won just by 3 seats and CDU agreed for a coalition deal with SOD. After these events,
she was declared as first female chancellor. Her agenda was free market
economic agenda and it was also because of her German’s relation with US has
improved. She is also working hard to redesign various infrastructures of
Germany including German health care system and tax reform. She was the
youngest person to hold the seat office of chancellor. In September 27, 2009,
her mandate was emphatically renewed. She has also worked to improve the
economy of Europe. In December 17, 2013, she became chancellor again for the
third time.
