Julia Gillard
was born on September 29th 1961 in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan. Her parents are John and
Moira Gillard. Her sister name is Allison Gillard. When Julia was 5 years old,
her family had moved to Adelaide, South of Australia. She had spent most of her
life there including her childhood and teenage.
She began her professional education from University of
Adelaide in arts and law. In 1982, she left her degree and moved to Melbourne,
Victoria. She started to work in Australian Union of Students (AUS). She was a motivational
speaker and had various seminars and served as a president from 1983 to 1984. She
started bachelor of law in 1986 and had done bachelor of arts from same
university in 1989. When she was doing bachelor of arts, she was also working
in law firm i.e. Slater and Gordon and after completion of her degree, she
became partner of the firm in 1990. She left the law firm in 1996 and served as
a chief of staff to the leader of the opposition and it was a big step, as it
was her step towards politics.
She was first elected for the seat of Lalor to house of representatives in 1998
federal elections. She was elected to shadow
cabinet in 2001 federal elections and was awarded with a portfolio of population
and immigration. Gillard took the responsibility of reconciliation and Indigenous Affairs Committee in 2003. From 2003
to 2006, she had served as shadow
minister for health.
On December 4, 2006, she became the deputy leader of Australian Labor party (ALP). In 2007 ALP won the
elections and Gillard became the Deputy Prime
Minister for education, employment, social intrusions and work relations. She
became the first female Prime Minister
of Australia on June 24th, 2010 and September 14th,
2010 federal elections.
In her first conference as a Prime minister, she addressed
that former Prime Minister Rudd had made a lot of mistakes during his reign and
she also proposed that good government was losing its way. She is the first Prime Minister who was
not married at that time and she was the second prime minster to have been born
overseas and the first was Billy Hughes.
She proposed that health is her prior agenda and also said that following
10 years, 300 nursing scholarships will be awarded and 270 placements for
doctors will be made. She had introduced new policies in economy, health,
Asylum Seekers, Education, same sex marriages, forced adoptions, foreign
affairs, trade. She had served as 27th Prime Minister of Australia
from 2010 to 2013.
