    Margarete Thatcher- The Iron Lady

They say, call a woman when you need to manage a household. Exactly! The 1980s struck Great Britain pretty hard. Employment rate was bad. Worker Unions were not in a jolly mood and inflation was raging on like a bull in fury. So, the household was in trouble, basically. Her Majesty’s (a lady, folks) government needed a strong-willed leader to flush out the distresses. And there the leader came. A woman. A manager of ‘household’.
Margarete Thatcher has a very powerful legacy in the political history of Great Britain. The legacy of sheer will power. One of her striking achievements, displaying her grit of a leader, was victory over Falklands Islands dispute. Despite the generals advising her against a military aggression, Thatcher ordered otherwise. How? I mean how can a woman be not soft? Something was left out in our education about the gender, I guess.
Leadership, will-power, the ability to stand out under pressure. These qualities are not a property of men. A lady can prove to be better than them. A lady can become an IronLady. As for the Iron Man, umm, he is in the comic books. And in the Marvel movies.
If you are a curious specie, it must have come into your mind by now that why, oh, why did Thatcher step down. She could have been the Prime Minister for another ten years. But she resigned on 28th November, 1990. Interesting fact is that she was forced to resign because the Big Boys in her own party did not want her to be the Prime Minister anymore. And that, too, was not for logical reasons, save the political ones.
Anyway, as the famous saying goes, all political careers end in failure. What matters is an honest audit of Margarete Thatcher’s government performance with leaving out the stockings. This Island nation owes her a whole decade of services. A decade and some more time. I mean, come on, fellows. She had something in her to be able to rule for a decade. A longest servingPrime Minister of the 20th century, she brought inflation down, influenced cold war events, got Britain’s “Sick Man of Europe” title shredded off and made the country economically vibrant. Yes, a woman can do all of that. Yes, politics is not a men-only game.

Britain has a woman Prime Minister yet again. I don’t know whether it is a co-incidence or an instinct of this nation that a woman is called to lead on whenever it is at a historic turning point. Indeed, it is again a turning point for Britain. It has existed from EU. It has to start over its foreign and economic policies. Let’s cross our fingers and watch Prime Minister TheresaMay  whether she complements Thatcher’s legacy.

So many years after Margarete Thatcher’s rule and quite a few years after her death, her image, the stature it all feels like a bright light on the other side of the river. The light encourages women to cross over. Cross over! The world is yours to take. All the arenas are yours to grab. Cross the river. Make the journey. Steal the show.
